CDC Guidelines for COVID-19 Testing

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Many viewers have been calling our station saying the Mesa County Public Health Department is not offering COVID-19 tests, and we want to make sure you have all the information you need to deal with this crisis.

MCPH has said its following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines for testing.

On the CDC’s website, there are three main criteria to be tested.

The first priority is testing hospitalized patients who have signs and symptoms compatible with COVID-19.

The second recommendation for testing is in other symptomatic people, like older adults and individuals who have chronic medical conditions or health problems that impact the immune system.

The third qualifier is any person, including healthcare personnel, who have symptoms within 14 days of either having close contact with a suspected or lab confirmed COVID-19 patient, or having traveled to one of the affected places around the world.

The CDC’s website also has a map available, as well as a number of other resources.
