GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Council members and advocates for the unhoused met at the Lincoln Park barn to discuss how to solve the housing crisis for those who cannot afford it. So far, the City of Grand Junction has come up with 13 strategies to solve the problem, those strategies are listed below.

  1. Participate in regional collaboration
  2. Adopt local affordable housing goals
  3. Implement land use code changes
  4. Encourage development of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
  5. Formalize existing incentives
  6. Allocate city-owned land for affordable housing
  7. Create a dedicated revenue source
  8. Provide financial support
  9. Support acquisition/rehabilitation to preserve affordable housing
  10. Consider implementation of an inclusionary housing/linkage fee ordinance
  11. Explore designation of an Urban Renewal Area
  12. Consider adoption of a voluntary rental registry program
  13. Provide community engagement and education opportunities
