FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) — Veterans Day is a time to honor and express gratitude to military veterans who served our country. On Friday, Grand Valley community members gathered at the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial Park to honor veterans with their annual Veterans Day ceremony.
Nicholas Williams, Colorado Mesa University’s Student Veterans Association President, spent five years in active duty as a military police officer. He told me Friday’s ceremony helped highlight the military campaigns so many veterans fought for.
Williams tells WesternSlopeNow.com, that many of the veterans who gave so much fighting for our country, struggle every day here in Mesa County.
Friday’s ceremony featured several booths including Veterans Affairs and Veterans of Foreign Wars, who offer assistance to our heroic veterans.
Veterans Day is always on Nov. 11, which is Saturday and marks 105 years since the end of World War I.
