Disc golf gets its own tournament: the Grand Valley Classic

News

The love for disc golf continues to increase in the Grand Valley where multiple clubs form to play frequently. Teams from Colorado and Utah come down for a friendly competition, having fun and winning prizes.

Disc golf started happening for Grand Junction sixteen years ago. Some natives have passion for this unique sport to become pro, travelling wherever to compete.

Coming to this tournament, seeing the sport grow in athletes and appreciation in their hometown is a support boost from their roots.

“I’ve lived here my whole life, and it’s been so great having a sports base back here,” Aaron Gossage shares, “I still live at home with my parents but I’ve just been touring around the country. Being able to come back, play a local tournament like this, it’s been a great experience. All these guys have so much support for me. It’s really awesome to have that support base for me.”

The goal of having this tournament was to expand the number of places to play, getting a permanent disc golf field at Chipeta Golf Course. The support and turnout from both days of the classic not only makes the tournament a success, but the motivated goal achieved.

Design plans for the next disc golf course in Grand Junction begin very soon. Triple Play Records express how this progress wouldn’t have been possible without the monetary donation of Alpine Bank and other sponsors.
