Gov. Polis push for plant-based meat

MESA COUNTY, Colo. — Plant-based meat alternatives have recently become popular in the food industry.

Fast-food chains like Burger King are now selling meatless options, like the “Impossible Whopper”.

Governor Polis is now asking the department of agriculture to consider plant-based meat alternatives.

The recent new push towards meatless options is concerning for the beef industry, which plays a large role in the state’s economy.

A Western Slope beef producer calls this news an attack on Colorado’s agriculture.

We see this as an attack on rural Colorado. On our beef producing families we’re certianly a big part of the economy in Colorado.

Ms. Van Winkle also says that here in Mesa County, every cow contributes $600 to $800 of economic impact.
