GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 500 block of 28 1/2 Road after barking dogs inside the house alerted neighbors of the danger.
Neighbors called 911 after they reportedly heard dogs barking from inside the home and saw smoke through the windows.
GJFD crews arrived on scene and extinguished the flames in the apartment. They then ensured the fire had not spread to any of the adjoining apartments or through the attic space.
According to the GJFD, 3 dogs died because of the fire. There are no other known injuries at this time.
Grand Junction Police secured the safety of the scene while members of the Victim Services Unit of the GJPD and the American Red Cross assisted the victims displaced by the fire.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
