GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
The Grand Junction Rockies hosted the Ogden Raptors for game one of the Pioneer League South playoffs Sunday. Defense was the theme of the game. Altogether Sunday only saw three runs scored. Unfortunately for the Rockies, two of those runs were scored by the Raptors, making the final 2-1.
Helcris Olivarez took the mound for the Rox, and pitched a gem of a game. He had five strikeouts through five innings, and only allowed two hits and one earned run. (That came when Boby Johnson walked a batter with the bases loaded)
Colin Simpson tied the game in the bottom of the 6th with a monster homerun. But that would not be enough. Ogden brought in Andrew Shaps as a pinch hitter in the 9th, and he followed Simpson’s lead. He took Jacob Kostyshock yard with what would end up being the game winner.
The Rockies look to bounce back in Ogden Monday, game two (of possibly three) starts at 6:30.
