Hemp farmers are anxiously awaiting federal rules for hemp cultivation in the United States and decisions could be coming soon.
Rules for growing hemp proposed by the US Department of Agriculture were submitted to the White House Office of Management and Budget for Review and Approval.
The new USDA regulations are expected to clarify changes included in the US Farm Bill, which was passed into law last December.
The new rules should also provide clarity on the legal definition of hemp and reinforce its removal from the controlled substances list.
Other issues to be addressed are the availability of crop insurance and banking services for farmers, approved pesticides for use on hemp crops, and the import of hemp seeds.
