JUCO is about to get Thunderstruck

A familiar face is coming back to the Alpine Bank JUCO World Series after a 12 year drought. New Mexico Junior College is coming back to the Valley for it’s third appearance in program history, and first since 2007.

The Thunderbirds are coming to Suplizio with a (42-15) overall record and as Southwestern District champs. New Mexico had very successful trips winning it all in 2005 and finishing as the runner-ups in 2007. They are (9-2) in JUCO games and look to better that in 2019.

They are in the national top seven in six different statistical categories as a team:

4th – Slugging % (.592)

5th – Hits (623)

6th – 3B (33)

6th – HR (79)

7th – RBI (455)

7th – Batting Average (.350)

*As of 05/14/2019

The Thunderbirds are led by third year head coach Jimmy Durham who has helped New Mexico to 117 wins and 55 losses.

Their first game is Saturday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. against the Southeastern District champions.
