Body Found On Colorado River Island

The Garfield County Coroner says his office is working to identify a body found on an island in the Colorado River near Parachute.

The body was found on Saturday. The coroner says the body was badly decomposed making it more difficult to positively identify, but that tattoos and other identifying marks have led to a preliminary identification.
Below is the complete news release from the Garfield County Coroner’s Office.
On Saturday June 9, 2018 at 4:01pm, the Garfield County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to a location on the Colorado River west of Parachute for a report of a body found on an island in the Colorado River. Coroner’s Office investigators responded to the area and worked with Garfield County Sheriff’s Deputies and Garfield County Search & Rescue, Inc. to recover the remains.

The human remains were in a state of decomposition making identifying the decedent more complicated. Preliminarily, the coroner’s office was able to make a presumptive identification based on tattoos and clothing. However, the Coroner’s Office will not release the identity of the decedent until additional identifying characteristics are determined. This could occur as soon as the autopsy is complete or it could take longer. The next of kin involving the presumptive identification has been notified of the investigation.

The cause and manner are pending investigation, which will include an autopsy. An autopsy will be scheduled for early this week.
