GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Anyone planning to travel on I-70 should plan for a little extra travel time.
Crews will continue to remove unstable rocks near eastbound exit 45 and westbound exit 49. Construction is in response to the rock slide that occurred in the area last Thursday, and officials say it is necessary in order to keep motorists safe.
Also impacting I-70 traffic– helicopter operations for Xcel Energy in Glenwood Canyon is expected to begin as early as today and will continue through October.
The work will require periodic road closures and rolling road blocks on parts of I-70, from mile markers 117 to 124.
These will take place between 9 AM and 3 PM, Mondays through Saturdays.
Recreational users such as hikers and rafters may also experience some delays during construction.
Flaggers will be posted on the Glenwood canyon trail and at river put-ins to keep everyone informed of any delays.
Cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to frequently check the CDOT website for any updates and information.
