1 Suspect Shot After Stolen Vehicle Investigation

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A suspect has been shot after reports of stolen vehicle in Grand Junction.

According to a statement from a Grand Junction Police Department spokesperson, just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday, officers were attempting to locate the driver of a stolen vehicle in the area of 29 1/2 Rd. and Parkway Dr.

Officers reportedly approached the suspect in the stolen vehicle, but the situation escalated, ultimately leading to the suspect being shot and transported to the hospital with what is expected to be non-life-threatening injuries.

One officer was hit by the vehicle on scene but only suffered minor injuries.

Details as to how the suspect ultimately was shot have not yet been released.

The incident will be handled by the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), a multi-agency group made of up different law enforcement officials in Mesa County which investigates all officer- involved shootings in the area.
