The festival began on Friday and will continue throughout the weekend.
Ryan Robinson from Powderhorn says, “so this weekend at Powderhorn is the Winter Sports Festival, at Odin Recreational Center, the area below the resort. Skiing and snowboarding happens up on the hill, but this event is great because it invited snowshoers, fatbikers, cross country skiers, to come down and enjoy the area below the resort.”
The event will have some demo equipment for you to try out, free of charge.
Toby Morse from Odin Recreational Center says, “John’s got some snowbikes here. I’ve got a fleet of demos that are both nordic skies and snowshoes that people want to demo, go out on the trails, check it out.”
Both Saturday and Sunday will feature a few different competition events that will require an entry fee.
Morse also says, “tomorrow at 8 AM we have a cross country ski race. It’ll be the skate discipline. That’s a 2.5 or 5 km race. We have the race for the little kids and that starts at 9:30. At 10:30 we have the snowbike races and then the demos all after that. Sunday is the triathelon, that you can do as a team or individually. That’ll be snowshoes, backcountry skiing, and cross country skiing.”
The price of the entry fee will depend on which event or how many events you’d like to be in.
The snow conditions are looking prime on the Mesa for an event like this.
Robinson says, “so this weeknd is great for this event. Unbelievable snowfall for February. This recent storm of 13 inches took our annual snowfall total over 200 inches and took our february total over 6 feet, so just incredible skiing conditions whether your cross country or downhill.”
