Cops and Barbers is an event that allows members of the community to interact with local law enforcement in a safe environment. The event hosted by Bejarano’s Barbering thought the barber shop was the perfect place for candid conversation.
Andy Sweet, a resident of Grand Junction and owner and Andy’s Barber Shop had a couple questions for the men in uniform.
“I may bring up concerns and issues that surround talking about mental health in the valley, especially as it regards to what Grand Junction P.D. does.”
Chris Bejarano, owner of Bejarano Barbering believes communication in a safe environment is the key to building trust with the police.
“In a spot where it’s sorta encourage, that’s where we can break some of the barriers and become a more communicative type of community where we are communicating with one another.”
Grand Junction Police Chief Doug Shoemaker says it’s a great way for community members to take advantage of conversation and for the police to become a big part of the community.
“The chance to get to meet new people and just to talk about things. what happens to be on their minds and how we can inform them a little more about what we do and what our job really truly is.”
