A Helping Hand

Salon Owner Starts Winter Coat Drive

Grand Junction, CO - If you ever thought that one person couldn't do much to solve the world's problems, a local hair salon owner might just change your mind.

Megan Marakis owns Revolution Salon in Grand Junction. One day she decided to take some of her daughter's old winter wear to Nisley Elementary after a client said kids at the school could use them.

When she was there, she started talking to one of the teachers, who told her just how many students at the school were in need.

"I just said 'What can I do to help?', and she said 'coats'," Marakis said. "And so I said, o.k., I can do that. And so, I posted on my Facebook that I wanted to do this and my clients were just amazing and they started dropping off coats by the bagful."

Marakis takes the coats to the school every Tuesday. And, she is inviting anyone who wants to help to drop off coats at her salon. You can drop off coats on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The salon is located at 545 North Avenue, Unit B.
