Authorities are investigating the case of a woman from western Colorado found dead in Austria.

A representative of the U.S. Embassy said the body of Lauren Mann, 25, of Paonia was discovered on Tuesday inside her apartment in the 4th district of Vienna.

Law enforcement was contacted after Mann failed to show up for her job as an au pair.  Officials say the woman was found partially dressed on a mattress in the bedroom.

A police spokesman said Mann had no obvious external injuries, but traces of blood were apparently found near her head which could indicate an internal injury.

Police said Mann’s death is currently being treated as a homicide; authorities have ordered a toxicological report to investigate the possibility of poisoning.

Austrian media reports that a forensics team initially had trouble examining the scene, as all the light bulbs in her apartment had burnt out and had to be replaced.

According to her Facebook page Mann had been studying German at the University of Vienna.
