The Eastbound Beavertail Tunnel located between mile markers 49 and 51 is still closed due to a semi truck transporting diesel slammed into the tunnel, and the tractor burst into flames.
An official with the Colorado State Patrol says the crash happened approximately 1:32 pm on October 14.
Eastbound Traffic on Interstate 70 is still being diverted on the eastbound frontage road. A Colorado Department of Transportation crew member told KREX 5 the closure is likely to continue tomorrow, October 15 due to crews assessing if the structure of the tunnel is safe after the impact and fire from the crash.
A tunnel camera through the CO Trip website showed a crane has removed the diesel tanker from the tunnel entrance at approximately 8:40 pm, and another update with the highway camera shows the tanker and the crews are gone at 11pm.
Eastbound lanes are expected to remain closed until Thursday.
