Brush Fire Burns 11 Acres in Fruita

FRUITA, Colo.- A controlled burn gets out of hand and burns 11 acres, according to the Lower Valley Fire District.

At about 11:30 a.m. Friday morning, the Lower Valley Fire District was dispatched to the 900 block of 18 road.

A lieutenant on scene tells KREX 5/ Fox 4 the fire quickly spread due to high winds in the area. No injuries were reported.

The only structures impacted by the blaze were two abandoned trailers on nearby property.

Roads were briefly shut down at River Road and I-70 Frontage Road, and at I-70 Frontage Road and 18 road.

According to Lower Valley Fire, the 11 acres burned impacted on four different private properties.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire before homes in nearby neighborhoods were impacted.

This fire is still under investigation.
