Cannabis and Kids

Mesa County, Colo. - The Colorado Department of Public Health has completed its 3rd report on marijuana health, and for the third year, more kids under the age of nine are accidentally consuming marijuana.

This has been a trend since 2016, and has led to more emergency room visits around Colorado.

Officials at the Colorado Department of Public Health guess that 23,000 homes in Colorado have cannabis stored in an unsafe manner.

So, with more forms of cannabis looking like a snack, kids will only see what looks appetizing to them.

"If it's left out like candy, there's a very high likelihood that they could ingest it and become very ill," EMS Officer Jamie Kavanaugh says.

Both Emergency Services and the Mesa County Health Department agree, that starting a dialogue about cannabis in the home and is the best way to keep your kids aware and safe.
