GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX)–The Colorado Department of Transportation allocated $2.2 billion towards road infrastructure and improvements back in 2019 to kick off their 10-year plan. The next phase has a price tag of about $1.7 billion for statewide road improvements– local projects included North Avenue–which is already underway–the I-70 Business Loop, Highway 6 from Palisade to Fruita, and 32 road.

Road improvements are critical here in Colorado–but CDOT is about more than just roads. Grand Valley Transit Planner Andrew Gingrich says CDOT also supplies them with a portion of the funding. CDOT allocated $3.5 million to GVT for the next 4 years.   in addition to bus replacements and a new maintenance facility–CDOT will also allocate funds for system enhancements and a new natural gas production and storage facility.

This is massive and unprecedented funding guaranteed to bring much needed change not only to grand junction, but to the western slope as a whole.
