GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction will be holding a public forum to discuss new plans for the Orchard Mesa recreational facility.

The forum will be held on Tuesday, June 6 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Barn located at 910 North 12th Street. Community members are invited to review preliminary concepts and ideas related to the current Orchard Mesa Pool facility as well as other options for creating an indoor recreation facility in Orchard Mesa. Recommendations for the recreation facility could include adding a turf field for indoor sports, as well as other possibilities. Locals can submit feedback online at engageGJ.org.

Mesa County School District, Mesa County and the City of Grand Junction collaborated to build the pool in 1983. Today, D51 owns the land and building and pays for the utilities while the City of Grand Junction and Mesa Count pay the annual subsidy cost required to keep the pool operational.

According to the city, after 30 years of operation with regular maintenance, the mechanical, pool, and building systems are approaching the end of their useful life and the facility requires a full renovation.

Western Slope Now will follow the development of the Orchard Mesa recreational facility plans.
