Classes in Olathe Resuming Friday After Student Threat

Safe2Tell report deemed credible after review of student social media account

MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. - Classes at Olathe schools are scheduled to resume on Friday after being canceled Thursday while authorities investigated a threat made by a student.


Officials with the Montrose County Sheriff's Office said a Safe2Tell report was received on Wednesday evening. Authorities determined the threat was credible after reviewing the student's social media account.

A decision was made to cancel classes for the following day in the interest of student, faculty and public safety.

Contact was made with the student and the student's family shortly after midnight. Authorities said a search of the residence found no weapons or ammunition.

The juvenile has now been charged with felony menacing and interfering with faculty, staff, students at aneducational institution.

Disciplinary processes by the Montrose County School District are also ongoing.
