COLORADO – Colorado ingredients, Colorado brewers, and Colorado beer all make up the return of the ‘Colorado Strong’ initiative.
This initiative began in 2020 at the height of the pandemic as breweries across the state struggled to keep their doors open,
“You had to see people get really creative and make really tough decisions around staff they could keep, what beers they could make,” says AC Golden Brewing Company’s Jeff Cornell.
After uniting 115 breweries and raising $75,000, ‘Colorado Strong’ was so successful in 2020 that the founders have decided to continue it this year.
The center of the initiative is a benefit beer made entirely with Colorado ingredients, brewed by participating Colorado breweries across the state,
“How cool is it to say that these are Colorado breweries, this is Colorado beer, made with Colorado ingredients,” says Left Hand Brewing Foundation and founder of the ‘Colorado Strong’ initiative Megan Mahar.
“However this isn’t just about the beer; the initiative’s founders recognize that the pandemic has taken its toll on many people, and are donating twenty percent of the proceeds from the benefit beer to the Colorado Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Colorado Brewers Guild,” explains KREX5’s Reilly Spence.
“We’re really excited to be able to support an organization that really helps you know, bring these conversations to light,” continues Mahar.
Not only will funds from the beer be going towards a good cause, but local breweries wanting to participate can join for free; the ‘Colorado Strong’ fund will give them all of the ingredients free of charge while paying suppliers for their products.
By visiting breweries that are pouring the initiative’s beer, community members are not only supporting the brewery, but the local vendors, not to mention mental health around the state.
The list of all participating breweries will be announced this Fall; you can try the beer that is keeping Colorado strong this November.
Grand Junction had several breweries participating in this initiative in 2020, however none so far this year.
