County Seeks Input on Tabor Refunds for Jail Expansion

Local News

Mesa County is asking for the public’s input on possibly keeping excess taxpayer revenue, to use toward expansion efforts at Mesa County Dentention Facility.

Commissioners say they face challenges at the county level with the expansion of the jail.

With about 600 inmates, the building is currently at capacity. An expansion is estimated to cost $20,000,000.00 to 23,000,000.00.

Commissioners say the county’s general funds don’t have this kind of money and capital funds would require the county to move back other projects.

One option is to consider using tabor refunds, which require the public’s vote.
