Craft Beer Tax Cuts Expire This Year: Local Breweries React

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION- Colorado is one of the states with the highest number of craft breweries, almost 400.

For the past two years, craft breweries have enjoyed paying fewer taxes per barrel of beer thanks to the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act. But, this law expires at the end of this year, and local brewers are concerned.

Prior to these tax breaks, breweries were paying $7.00 in excise tax per barrel of beer produced. With this law, all breweries pay only $3.50 per barrel.

Brewers say the savings generated from these tax breaks have allowed for more employees to be hired, and investments in new equipment.
