GRAND JUNCTION, Colo – Investigations in to Mesa County’s elections office now include a criminal aspect.

The Mesa County District Attorney’s office is joining the investigation after being asked by the secretary of state’s office to pursue possible criminal charges. The Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, first announced the charges after a security breach led to elections passwords being posted on social media.

Currently, there is no specific target to the criminal investigation.

The secretary of state’s office says County Clerk and Recorder, Tina Peters, has not responded to any requests for information, but Peters was commenting on elections Tuesday night.

Videos and pictures of Peters circulated social media Tuesday night, as she spent the evening in South Dakota participating in an event focused on the 2020 election being rigged. The event was hosted by “My Pillow” founder, Mike Lindell, an outspoken supporter of president trump.

On multiple occasions Peters told KREX 5 Colorado’s elections are the safest and most secure in the country. However, videos of the event on twitter show peters discussing the Secretary of State’s investigation into Mesa County, with claims of people raiding her office during her flight to South Dakota.

Secretary Griswold says the violations being investigated by her office may result in the de-certification of the voting systems in mesa county
