MESA COUNTY, Colo. — School District 51 has finalized a graduation ceremony plan. When brainstorming, D-51 weighed a few graduation ceremony options that were shared with the public, none of which became the plan.

On Wednesday, May 13, D-51 finalized its plan to have the ceremony– drive thru style.

About ten cars, full of the students and their families, will enter thier highscool at a designated time– all dressed and ready to go.

“They will have a mask, we have ordered masks for students with their high school colors and mascot, they will come to a designated area in the middle of the parking lot. I will greet them, the principal will greet them– as well as a school board member.” – Diana Sirko, D-51 Superintendent

The students will be able to get out of their cars to be honored while families stay in their vehicles to watch. Only one car is allowed per student or two cars for a split family.

We will have more information on this plan, and capture the student and family reactions to this plan.
