D51 to Pay Nearly $80,000 to Fired Superintendent

MESA COUNTY, Colo. - After being fired over a financial investigation, former Superintendent for District 51 Ken Haptonstall, will receive nearly $80,000 in severance and payouts.

According to a "Separation and Agreement Settlement" obtained by KREX 5, D51 will pay Haptonstall $71,360.00 as one lump sum for severance.

Haptonstall will also be paid for his unused vacation days which totals $8,371.76, which totals $79,731.76.

Haptonstall was fired by the D51 School Board Friday night after findings in a investigative report says he mismanaged the reorganization of some administrative roles which resulted in significant salary cost increases, which were not communicated to the board.
