GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A Grand Junction man convicted of the murder of Kyle Free will receive the maximum penalty for his crimes.
This comes over a year after Kyle Free went missing.
David Castro is sentenced to 48 years for both charges in the murder of Kyle Free. In total, his second-degree murder conviction and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder conviction will place him in prison for potentially 96 years.
The length of the sentence was extended based on Castro being on parole when the crime was committed.
Both Castro and Kyle Free had family letters read, with very different perspectives.
One common thread between both the victim and murderer were the families saying they lost a loved one who was consumed by their drug abuse.
