GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – Derek “D.J.” Dickey is a Palisade native the Grand Junction Lions Club recognized for accomplishments and contributions he’s made to the Grand Valley since he was a teenager, including an Eagle Scout project that still stands to this day.

Holding three college degrees, Dickey has volunteered for Colorado Discover Ability for the last 20 years, has become a Scoutsmaster and beyond, all while being legally blind.

While getting the award was a surprise, the vision D.J has to keep giving back and helping others is clear and bright.

“As long as I got breath and I can do what I can, I still plan to keep volunteering as much as I can,” Hometown Hero Derek “D.J.” Dickey expresses, “I am shocked and in awe. I’m just very honored.”

The Grand Junction Lions Club has been honoring unsung volunteers for more than 20 years, but this year is a first that the honoree also benefits from volunteer services.
