FRUITA, Colo. — A place of worship in Fruita is devastated after a fire destroyed its building Monday morning.
At about 8:00 a.m., the Lower Valley Fire Department raced to Beit Lehem Ministries for a report of smoke.
Crews arrived to find a rapid structure fire with two engines and one ladder the flames were contained in about 20 minutes. Crews stayed on scene for several hours following initial containment to check on the cause of the fire.
Thankfully, no one was in the building at the time of the fire, and a few historical articles were saved.
Everything else inside is damaged, totally– either from fire, water, or smoke. The fire department brought out a cabinet which we have a very old Torah scroll in it, its about 200 years old. It was found outside of Auschwitz, its very expensive– very old… we were able to save that.Curtis Taylor, Beit Lecham Ministries Pastor
Despite the devastation, Pastor Taylor says Beit Lecham Ministries will be rebuilt.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
