District 51 elementary schools have added mini libraries to all of their classrooms.
All fourth and fifth grade classrooms within the district received over 50,000 books.
It’s part of District 51’s new learning initiative called “Reading to Engage, Enrich and Empower,” also known as RTE3.
Those with D51 said the whole purpose of this initiative is to make sure all students are impacted by what they learn in the classroom.
“They want to make sure that they’re reaching all kids. They want to make sure that learners have choice and that those materials are readily available to them,” said Michelle Lyon, Fifth Grade Teacher at Shelledy Elementary.
Those with the district said they hope when when kids enjoy what they’re learning, they’ll continue exploring new books for years to come.
