GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Middle school students from throughout District 51 will flock to the campus of Colorado Mesa University (CMU) with the chance to explore their college and career options as they take part in the Middle School Career Fair.
Participants will go on a walking tour of CMU and engage in hands-on activities with presenters from Colorado’s six designated career clusters:
- Business, Marketing, and Public Administration
- Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Energy
- STEM, Arts, Design, and IT
- Hospitality, Human Services, and Education
- Health Science, Criminal Justice, and Public Safety
- Skilled Trades and Technical Sciences
Students will have the opportunity to explore booths from local businesses and organizations, as well as the programs that are offered at both CMU and Western Colorado Community College (WCCC), another partner of the event.
“8th-grade is a big milestone in the ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) process,” said District 51’s Emily Shockley. “Students leaving middle school will take classes in high school and beyond based on their intended career field, and it’s important to help them explore all possible career and college avenues now to ensure they’re taking the right path to reach their goals and prepare for the future they want.”
If your student is interested in having the chance to explore college and high school classes, clubs, and other opportunities, the career fair will be taking place on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
