One of the biggest fears for a pet owner is something happening to their four legged friend. One owner had quite the scare Friday as their dog fell through an icy pond at a popular park. Thanks to quick actions the outcome could have been a lot worse.
A 2-year-old Australian Shepard fell through the ice at a pond near the playground at Canyon View Park. The dog was about 30 feet on the pond when the ice broke.
Luckily people in the area called 911. The Grand Junction Fire Department arrived, equipped with a special insulated suit and other tools as they were able to get into the pond and pull the dog out safely. G.J.F.D. says these types of incidents are common and that calling first responders to come help is the right thing to do instead of trying to do it themselves.
“We just really push people to call 911, our gear is specialized for this case we don’t want to have to do a dog rescue and a person rescue,” says Krysta Parker of G.J.F.D.
