Early AM Fire in Fruita

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Lower Valley firefighters were called out to Fruita just after 1 AM for reports of visible flames on the west side of a bridge crossing the Colorado river, near old highway 3-40.

Multiple brush trucks and at least one water tender were dispatched to the scene, and crews were still working into the mid-morning hours, trying to put out hot spots and clear debris.

The Lower Valley Fire District is also warning rafters to stay away from the south side of the river at the bridge, to avoid falling debris at the site.

An official cause of the blaze has not been released.
