GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The spike in the COVID case count has East Middle School temporarily transitioning to remote learning. This week the school identified several positive coronavirus cases, and after contact tracing, 200 students and some staff members have to quarantine.
The large number of people forced to quarantine has School District 51 making a school-wide change. D51 has decided to suspend all in-person learning at East Middle School, so until November 4th, students will learn from home.
The students and staff who were in close contact with a positive case will be required to follow the Mesa County Public Health quarantine guidelines. However, the rest of the student body is told to only monitor their symptoms, and they do not need to isolate.
In the meantime, while East Middle School is temporarily closed, it will be deep cleaned and disinfected by D51’s custodial staff.
