GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The death of Elijah McClain at the hands of law enforcement and first responders in Aurora, Colorado has become an international story and a small part of the broader issues of police brutality and racial profiling.

KREX 5’s Shelby Bracho spoke with the attorney representing the family of Elijah Mcclain, Mari Newman, about the case and whats next in order for justice to be served.

“Three Aurora police officer’s not just stopped Elijah for no reason but immediately grabbed him, went hands-on,” said Newman, “Elijah‘s response was, ‘Hey I’m just going home, I’m an introvert please respect my boundaries,’ but they didn’t respect his boundaries, they proceeded to grab him, throw him up against the wall, tackle him to the grass and then inflict force on him over the course of about 15 minutes, two carotid chokeholds, multiple kinds of different pain compliance techniques, I mean to say he was tortured is not an exaggeration.”
