Firefighters from across Colorado gathered in Grand Junction on Monday, preparing to drive to Chico, California to stage for firefighting efforts to combat the massive blazes that have killed dozens and destroyed thousands of homes in Northern California. The firefighters are mostly from small volunteer companies in places like Aspen and Telluride. They were called to action by the Colorado Department of Emergency Management after the agency was asked for help from California authorities. The firefighters will be on the road for two days and then will spend two weeks on the front lines in the battle against the wildfires.
