Colorado police officers were busy this past Memorial Day weekend as three hundred arrests were made during the statewide The Heat Is On Memorial Day DUI enforcement.

In Mesa County, six DUI arrests were made and the next DUI enforcement period is on its way.

The Summer Blitz DUI enforcement period will start on June 15 and last for ten days.

This enforcement period may include sobriety checkpoints, extra patrols and additional law enforcement for large events.

With Country Jam about to be in full force in Mesa County, you can expect to see extra patrols from Colorado State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.

“If you’re going to be going out to Country Jam, be prepared to be driving like you’re going to be talking to a trooper, because a lot of people are going to have the chance to talk to one of us out there,” said Dan Chermok, CSP Public Information Officer.

CSP say’s they are trying to reduce what was a record year for the state in roadway deaths.

They recommend that travelers headed to major events take precautions. These could include organizing a driving service to take you to and from an event or designating a sober driver.

There are 14 high-visibility DUI enforcement periods in Colorado throughout the year, but CSP still encourages you report any dangerous activities you see on the roadways.
