The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday passed a measure sponsored by Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO) that will honor two fallen Western Slope law enforcement officers by renaming U.S. Post Offices in their honor.

The downtown post office in Grand Junction would be renamed in honor of Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Geer, who was killed in the line of duty in February, 2016 while trying to arrest Austin Holzer.

Deputy Geer was a 15-year veteran of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

The main post office in Montrose would be renamed after Sgt. David Kinterknecht, who was killed in July, 2009 while responding to a domestic violence call.

Sgt. Kinterknecht was a 10-year veteran of the Montrose Police Department.

While the House resolution still needs to be approved by the U.S. Senate and signed by President Trump, it is expected both those moves will happen soon.
