Food for first responders

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — From fighting the largest wildfires in Colorado history, to nursing those sick with COVID-19 back to health, our first responders have been the real heroes of 2020, and to thank our community’s heroes St Mary’s Hospital is feeding them gourmet food throughout the week.

Breakfast burritos were warm and ready to go this morning. St. Mary’s chef cooked 120 fresh egg burritos for local police officers, firefighters, sheriffs, and medical personnel. The breakfast was served drive-through style, which means first responders drove up to grab some grub. In addition, tomorrow as well as Wednesday, our heroes will do the same for lunch and dessert.

The thank you meals are also an honor to make for the first responders. Dustin Deprospo, a St. Mary’s chef, says, “to do special events like this, especially for people like ambulance drivers and firefighters and police officers, it really brings the level of pride up. It allows you to really take pride in your work.”

St. Mary’s Hospital will donate any left over food each day to feed the homeless.
