Air Quality Health Advisory is in place through Saturday morning.
Smoke from the Pack Creek wildfire just south of Moab, UT is drifting into portions of the Western Slope. A (light) southwest wind direction will continue to transport this haze into the region and will include include Mesa, Delta and Garfield counties. People with sensitive breathing problems should take precautions to avoid prolonged exposure.
Aside from the local wildfires and the drifting smoke, the sky is expected to remain clear to mostly clear for the extended period. A ridge of high pressure will anchor over our region and keep us very dry and extremely warm. Temperatures are expected to jump significantly for the end of this weekend and all of next week. New temperature records are anticipated and an Excessive Heat Advisory is in place as a result of these hot temperatures. Please take caution and avoid overexposure during the heat of the day. Never (during any season/anytime/for whatever reason) leave a child or a pet in an unattended vehicle and take action to prevent a child from locking themselves in a car during this heat. This hot stretch of weather will continue through all of next week.
