FRIDAY UPDATE: Delta Police reports that the bear left overnight, climbing down from the tree on its own and walking out of town. Police say once the crowds that came to see the bear during the day left for the night, the bear was able to climb down and leave.
The Delta Police Department is trying to get a bear out of a tree located at 2nd and Main Street. Police say they are concerned about safety because of the number of people gathering at the site to look at the bear.
In a news release, Delta Police made the following statement:
“The bear needs to come down and move on to a safer location however the crowds of people in the area are causing a greater risk to safety. We are asking everyone to avoid the area as much as possible. Officers will be sternly enforcing laws in the area to include laws pertaining to wildlife. The key outcome is to safely get this bear out of town, out of harm’s way and keep the community safe.”
