GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A Grand Valley principal finds himself frozen today, but not because of outside temperatures.
Principal Jory Sorenson from Redlands Middle School dressed up as the character Elsa from the movie Frozen, although he was a little apprehensive about his costume! He dressed up as part of an agreement between him and their School Counselor, Gwen Eller, who used it as motivation for the staff to make a donation to United Way of Mesa County.
This year, every single staff member made a donation, totaling to around $3,000 coming straight from the school and right to United Way of Mesa County.
Eller believes it's important to donate, because some staff and students have been supported by programs that United Way of Mesa County offers. "It's like a pay it forward, right? You know, they're helping us, we're helping them, it all comes around. And we're a part of the community and we need to support the community as they support us," said Eller.
Those with School District 51 said the grand total of the entire district's donation to United Way of Mesa County is around $81,000. According to those with the charity, they said they are grateful for the donations and all of that money will stay right here in the community.
United Way of Mesa County's mission is to fight for the health, education, and self-reliance of everyone in the county.
