Fruita PD and MCSO identity staff involved in Loma officer-involved shooting

FRUITA, Colo – The Fruita Police and Mesa County Sherrif Departments are identifying the officer and deputies involved in the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Loma the morning of August 29, 2020.

The Fruita Police Department officer who discharged his duty firearm during this incident is
Corporal Stephen “Tony” Gianinetti. Corporal Gianinetti is a 5-year veteran of the Fruita Police Department. He was previously employed with the Craig Police Department for 6 years. Corporal Gianinetti is a law enforcement driving instructor and field training officer.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies who discharged their duty firearm during this incident are Deputy Brandon Barry and Deputy Justin Rolbiecki.

Deputy Brandon Barry is a 5-year veteran of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office currently assigned to patrol. Deputy Justin Rolbiecki is a 4-year veteran of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office currently assigned to patrol.

As per standard department protocol, involved officers and deputies are placed on paid administrative leave during the internal review that takes place independently of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) investigation.

The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by the 21st Judicial District Critical
Incident Response Team.
