GJHS Makes Security Changes After Two Assaults

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After two violent assaults within a matter of two weeks, District 51 officials are ramping up security at Grand Junction High School.

One assault happened about two weeks ago where one GJHS student physically assaulted another near the Domino’s on North Ave.

The other assault happened Monday on the school’s south lawn where one student stabbed another. The victim in Monday’s stabbing is expected to make a full recovery.

D51’s security director says there will be increased security patrols both on school grounds and in the surrounding area. He and other school district officials hope these patrols help prevent future incidents.

The patrols in the surrounding area include places where students go during their off-campus lunch period. This includes local restaurants near campus and nearby parks.

D51 security will have a direct line of contact to law enforcement during their patrols, should any incidents arise.
