GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The City of Grand Junction officially has a new leader.
Wednesday city council-member Barbara Traylor Smith was selected to serve a one year term as the city's next mayor and president of the council.
Mayor Smith will be replacing outgoing mayor Rick Taggart, who voted for her to take over.
Smith says she's honored the council selected her.
"I think one of the things that is really important about this city is that we are looking for a lot of ways of moving forward." Smith said, "That doesn't necessarily mean growing a lot but moving forward and becoming a better community."
Smith has served on the council for almost four and a half years, after being appointed to it, then reelected last spring.
Mayor pro-tem Bennet Boeschenstein was reelected unanimously to stay in that role for another year by his fellow councilors.
