GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Four staff in the Grand Junction Utilities Department have tested positive for COVID-19. These employees are currently isolating, and the City is working with Mesa County Public Health to identify anyone with whom these individuals may have come in contact. Those identified as potential exposures are being asked to isolate, monitor symptoms, and to receive testing for the virus. There will be minimal staffing on water and wastewater operations to split staff and further reduce spread.
City officials say the wastewater laboratory services are suspended for partner agencies. There are no other impacts to city services at this time.
Officials say the City has been preparing for the potential for positive cases for employees. Resulting, the City of Grand Junction developed policies designed for the safety of employees and the public, and to ensure the continuity of services provided to the community. Employee policies provided guidelines for teleworking, pandemic leave, and best practices for public health such as hand washing. Included in these policies is a mask policy, for which the City provided all employees with cloth masks to be worn while working for the purpose of preventing the spread of COVID-19 within the organization and the community.
