Grand Valley Oncology and the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah are now offering clinical trials for cancer patients.
This is the first center in the intermountain West region to establish clinical trials. Officials say clinical trials have many benefits for cancer patients. “It is a deviation from the usual model of care where we expect the patient to come to the clinical trial. We are now bringing the clinical trial to the patient,” says Daniel Couriel of the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
By offering clinical trials, officials are making sure that there are more opportunities for patients in the community. “Unfortunately, there’s so much cancer in our community and around the world. And we just want to make sure everybody’s got the best chance to fight cancer and live long lives,” says Chris Thomas, the CEO of Community Hospital.
