Halloween on the Western Slope

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo — Trick or treat! Families from all over the Western Slope will be packing the streets eager to get their hands on some candy.

Before you leave the house, the Grand Junction Police Department wants you to prepare a checklist of things to keep in mind to keep your house from all of those scary witches.

Callie Berkson, with Grand Junction Police Department, says, “make sure you turn off your porch lights, simply to let the community know that your house is not partaking in Halloween festivities. If you’re not going to be home, make sure all your doors are locked, that all your windows are shut, and also out of an abundance of caution, your car needs to be locked.”

Ensuring your personal belongings are secured at home is important.

Making sure you have a plan in place to keep you and your loved ones safe ensures everyone gets some good candy and has a spooktacular time.

Berkson also says, “you’re following the rules of the road, make sure that you’re well-lit when you’re out  there trick or treating, it’s good to travel in groups so that other people see you and there’s a larger presence”

Kids should also have some reflective tape on their costumes, carry flashlights or glow sticks.

GJPD will be present throughout the evening hours to make sure everyone gets home safely.
